Uganda Airlines will start four direct flights a week to Johannesburg, South Africa from May 31 (2021), the Airline has announced. The flights will be on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

These will be the first direct flights out of Entebbe to South Africa, in a while. Previously, to travel to South Africa available flights by Kenya Airways, Rwanda Air, Ethiopian Airways and South African Airways all went through their own hubs or through other South African countries, normally accumulating a couple of waiting hours en-route.

Johannesburg will be Uganda Airline’s first destination outside East Africa and the Great Lakes region. So far the airline has flights to Kenya (Nairobi and Mombasa), Tanzania (Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro), Burundi (Bujumbura), South Sudan (Juba), Somalia (Mogadishu) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (Kinshasha).

The airline said fares for a return tick Entebbe- Jo’burg start from US$341.

Early this year, Uganda Airlines received the second of its Airbus A330neo, a mid-sized long range aircraft with a 280 seat capacity, that is expected to enable it make flights to Asia, the Middle East and Europe. The airline also boasts 4 Bombardier CRJ 900 – each with 76-seater capacity, which will mainly service the East African and Great lakes region destinations.
