ICS acquires COWI Uganda

UK based engineering consulting firm, Infra Consulting Services Ltd (ICS), has announced that it has acquired COWI Ltd, the local component of the Danish Consulting firm COWI A/S Denmark.

Derek Natumanya, the chief operating officer, ICS in Uganda said in a statement: “This is a formidable achievement in ICS’ history and cements our position on the leader board of engineering consultancies in Uganda.”

In East Africa, ICS has operations in Uganda and Ethiopia. It acquired its operations in East Africa through acquisition of the operations of Scott Wilson, and along with it,  its assets and experience in the region. ICS took over Scott Wilson’s 60 years of  engineering experience in different parts of Africa, deep knowledge of the engineering and infrastructural sector in Africa including Uganda gained through ongoing and past projects, and a fully equipped and resourced offices in Kampala and Addis Ababa.

Some of the projects that ICS is currently involved in, in Uganda include the Kampala Flyover Project, the Jinja Express Way, The East African Crude Oil Pipe Project, The Kampala Southern Bypass project, among others.

Frank Gottlieb, the managing director, COWI Ltd (Uganda) said, “We are happy to have identified ICS as a worthy partner to take over our local operations in Uganda and continue the great work done over the last 30 years together our partners and customers.”

COWI Ltd is UNRA’s supervising consultant on the expansion of the Northern By Pass works. They were also the consultant that developed Uganda Transport Master Plan in 2019.

A press statement co-issued by ICS and COWI Ltd said all existing COWI Ltd projects in Uganda will be completed by ICS and COWI A/S.
