Hoima-Kaiso-Tonya road completed

The road connecting Hoima town to the oil-areas of Kaiso and Tonya has been completed. The road that has featured in work plans and budget speeches for the last several years is one of the oil infrastructure roads that connect Hoima and the rest of the country to the Tullow Oil wells in Tonya and Kaiso.
Executed by Turkish Company Kolin Construction Ltd the UGX314 billion road was fully funded by the Government of Uganda. The road that is 92 Km long, 7 metres of carriage-way, 2 metres of shoulders, is also 39 cm thick of crashed stone and 12-15 cm of asphalt.

The completion of the road is expected to bring enormous benefits to this region; once one of the most dormant regions of the country. The road will facilitate transportation of oild drilling and refinery machinery and equipment. It will therefore ease movements, save time and money for setting up the oil hardware in the area.
The road will also connect Hoima easily to the rest of the country (and the world) and link it to the Albertine region and the Democratic Republic of Congo which, beyond the oil will spur more economic activity.
Dan Alinange, Head of Communications, Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) said the road had been completed on time and within the budget. In the past road contracts have wavered way beyond stipulated timelines, and along with the delay costs shooting sometimes to even 10-20 per cent of their original costs. The works for the road were commissioned in 2012.
