Cornwell Muleya, the former CEO of the defunct Air Uganda is returning as a technical adviser to the re-start Uganda Airlines, the national airline management has said. Announcing Muleya’s return on their Twitter account, Uganda Airline said Muleya has “over 20 years’ experience in executive, financial and strategic planning roles in aviation.”
A Zambian national, Muleya graduated in Chemical Engineering at the University of Bath in the UK before undergoing training in accounting and auditing. He thereafter worked for global accounting/auditing firms, Deloitte and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
In his LinkedIn page Muleya says since 2017, he has been running his own consultancy- Cornwell Aviation Consultants (CAC) based in Lusaka, in his native Zambia. “We deliver agency services, management consultancy, financial consultancy, business planning, strategic planning, feasibility studies alongside a host of commercial and finance solutions. We assist Airlines, Governments & other companies to find project finance, perform project feasibility studies, and build long term strategies and business plans,” he said on the professional social media page.
He adds, “Using our expertise and contacts with venture capital firms, private equity and other international finance parties in the USA, Europe, Middle East and Asia. We raise funds for new and existing projects including finance for aircraft purchases and business expansion. We have also helped governments and the private sector to set up airlines, to raise project finance, both recourse and non-recourse in different sectors over periods of 15 years or more. We have also provided restructuring and interim management services for airlines focusing on turnarounds, capital raising, and financing and system improvement initiatives.”
Muleya has also previously worked with Meridian Air, Air Mauritius, Air Botswana, Zambezi Airlines, and ALS Ltd.
It is not clear what kind of technical advisory work Muleya will perform with the national airline.
Meeting the Parliament Committee on Budget at the end of the week, Monica Azuba Ntege, the minister for works & transport said the airline’s pilots will take home about US$ 12,000 while their co-pilots will take about US$ 10,000.
Aggrey Bagiire, the state minister for works said the technical team-largely Ugandan, has been attracted from reputable international airlines that they have been working for around the world.
