For the second year running, the biggest four construction companies -by volume of business- globally, are Chinese, according to a survey conducted by the construction magazine, International Construction. This development solidifies China’s entry and presence into a field previously dominated by big European and American players.
China State Construction & Engineering (CSCE)-also called China Construction- was the largest world constructor by business volume, according to the survey. In this position for the second time running, CSCE also China’s biggest construction company renown for works on most of China super high-rise buildings has a presence in over 20 countries around the world. In Africa they have footprints in West, Central and Southern Africa. According to their website, CSCE is a leader in innovation and invention in the construction industry, boasting of 141 construction methods and 4,394 patents under their belt.
China Railway group was the second in global business clout. Also called China Railway, the group boasts world class experience in railways, tunnel, expressways, and highways construction. China Railway Construction and China Communications & Construction occupied the third and fourth places.
According to International Construction Magazine, the top for construction companies in 2014 notched up business worth US$ 375 billion, between the four of them. Globally, the biggest 200 construction companies together recorded a turnover of just over US$ 1.6 trillion.
The biggest European constructors were: Vinci (French), ACS (US), Bechtel (US), Bouygues (French), coming fifth, sixth, seventh, eight positions globally. The Chinese Metallurgical Corporation came in 9th position and Hochtief (German) came 10th.
