The usually sleepy and dusty Kigo-Mutungo areas off the Kampala-Entebbe high way is set to come to life with the launch of a multi-billion shilling up-end housing estate. The Mirembe Villas Project is a joint venture between a private company, Guoji Group Ltd and the Kingdom of Buganda.
Mirembe Villa’s project covers 70 acres of land on the beautiful and hilly Kigo area adjacent to the proposed Kajjansi-Munyonyo highway. It also borders the Entebbe airport expressway currently under construction. The estate will be only 30 minutes’ drive to Entebbe International Airport, Uganda’s only international gateway. It will similarly be only 15 minutes to the centre of Kampala.
The Villas neighbor the exquisite and quiet five-star Serena Lake Victoria Hotel in Kigo. The hotel already boasts of a golf course that will be only a few minutes’ drive (walk) away for a Mirembe Villas resident.
Mirembe Villas is described as “a modern high-end community with distinct Mediterranean architectural style integrating dwellings and environment perfectly, with first class supporting facilities; a shopping mall, restaurants, clinic, gym, bar, swimming pool, sports courts and other recreational facilities.”
The Villas is planned to be self-sufficient in the sense that residents have all they need, conveniently without having to go outside for sports, entertainment, shopping, health services among others.
The estate will have four different types of houses named Type 1 (T1), T2, T3 and T4. The T1 is a splendid 2-story affair with 4 self-contained bedrooms, 2 balconies and 2 parking slots. The T2 is similarly a 2-story Mediterranean design house, sitting on 22 decimals, providing 306 square metres of space. It also has 2 balconies and 2 parking slots, with a large compound at the front. The T3s are 3-story, 6 bedrooms each with its own bathroom, with 3 balconies, sitting on 27 decimals. The T4 is a semi-detached house, 2 stories, with 5 self-contained bedrooms.
The houses will be built on high end, environment, security and safety conscious material. All the houses will be roofed with high quality clay tiles and the walls will be brick concrete. The buildings are done with energy conservation in mind; with wide windows to allow natural lighting and aeration. The floors will be finished with high-end ceramic tiles, the bathrooms with anti-skid ceramics. The woodworks in the bedroom (wardrobes) and in the kitchen (cabinets) will be done with class wood and quality.
The shared facilities in the estate include security; (CCTV cameras) and guard security, a well-planned internal road network, outdoor children playing areas and 7 acres of free green space for residents to play, socialize, and hold parties. The estate will also have its own sewerage treatment and fire protection systems.
The project has already enlisted Housing Finance Bank, DFCU Bank, KCB and Stanbic to offer mortgages for those interested in purchasing the houses using mortgages.
